SA Water Adelaide Desalination Project - Commodities Registration

Project Owner: SA Water Corporation
Project Value: $1.8 billion
Project Status: Design and Construction
Location: SA, Australia

Associated Projects:
   - SA Water Adelaide Desalination Project - Commodities Registration

As part of a four-way water security strategy the South Australian Government is building a seawater desalination plant at Port Stanvac, south of Adelaide, to ensure drinking water is available even in times of drought.

The Adelaide Desalination Project will deliver up to 50 billion litres of water each year - about a quarter of Adelaide's water supply. The recent State and Commonwealth funding announcement will mean the plant will now be expanded to 100 billion litres a year.

Port Stanvac has been chosen as the preferred site due to the accessibility of relatively deep seawater, optimal marine dispersion characteristics, better access to the water supply network, suitable land availability and lower construction costs.

First water will be delivered via the plant in December 2010.

AdelaideAqua has been named as the preferred bidder for construction of the desalination plant. The consortium comprises of McConnell Dowell, Abigroup Contractors, ACCIONA Aqua and United Utilities, which collectively have extensive world-wide desalination experience and strong environmental credentials. Together they will design, build, operate and maintain the plant for 20 years. AdelaideAqua was selected after a comprehensive evaluation process.

An important part of the Adelaide Desalination Project is the transfer pipeline system to deliver water from Port Stanvac to the Happy Valley water treatment supply. From there the water will enter the distribution network.

A joint venture between respected construction companies McConnell Dowell Constructors Pty Ltd and Built Environs Pty Ltd has been appointed to design and build the pipeline system. These contractors are working with SA Water to ensure the pipeline can be delivered with minimal impact on the community and the environment.

The relevant contact details for each of the consortia are listed below in the Contact Details section for anyone seeking information on subcontract or employment opportunities.

ICN is taking registrations from companies that are interested in supplying to the project. Companies are reminded that registration does not guarantee that you will receive tender documentation to respond to.

Registration
Companies can register their interest in supplying to the Adelaide Desalination Project by clicking on the Register button at the left of this page.

AdelaideAqua has identified the key commodities that they will require for the Adelaide Desalination Project.  Please note these are NOT actual work packages but rather an indication of the items required for the project. If the item or service you are seeking to provide is not listed, then please ensure you describe the products and services in the first question on the registration form.

In the registration table, Tier 1 refers to companies that are able to supply the item in full to AdelaideAqua and Tier 2 refers to companies which would seek to subcontract supply part of the item.  You are able to tick both boxes if applicable.

Companies are reminded that registration does not guarantee that you will receive tender documentation to respond to.  AdelaideAqua will be short listing from the registrations for the work packages.  For information on the work packages including the expected timing, click on "Procurement Work Packages Information" below. For general information about the Adelaide Desalination Project, click on "Desalination Project Overview" below.
